Dear Colleagues and Friends from Civil Society,

We sincerely hope you, your families, friends and colleagues are fine in this difficult times.

Like most of you, we currently find ourselves in unusual circumstances due to the situation regarding COVID-19.

Due to the lock down of the UN complex in Nairobi, the Civil Society Unit team is currently working mostly from home, being connected online. We aim to insure that this does not lead to any interruptions in implementing our work plan and regarding the services provided by us and UNEP. Although we try to do our best, there may be some delays in processing your requests. We kindly ask to bear with us until the situation has improved.

Kindly see this website and email communication on updates regarding the latest developments and do not hesitate to get into contact with us.

We are pleased to share with you the statement of the United Nations Environment Programme on the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Kindly also see the presentation of the Executive Director on UNEP’s engagement with the UN System and its response to the COVID-19 situation, provided during a briefing at the subcommittee meeting of the CPR on 2 April 2020

UN Environment recognizes the importance of engaging Major Groups and other Stakeholders as partners and appreciates the perspectives they bring to the table, valuable research and advocacy functions they perform and their role in helping foster long-term, broad-based support for UN Environment’s mission.

Intergovernmental decisions will have stronger and broader recognition and support by the public if governments take Major Groups and other Stakeholders views into account as early as possible in policy-making and decision-making processes. Major Groups and other Stakeholders also play a direct role in the formation of policy as researchers, think-tanks, and watchdogs, or through advocacy.
