United Nations Environment Programme

Training and capacity building

UN Environment will be developing a series of training course packages which will be delivered in countries supported by Norway’s Oil for Development Programme.  Course development is currently focused on the following topics:

  • Foundation Course on Oil and Gas Exploration and Production and Promoting Sound Environmental Management (5 days)
  • Short Course on Chemicals and Waste Management (3-4 days)
  • Short Course on Climate Change and Air Quality (3-4 days)
  • Short Course on Emergency Preparedness and Response for Oil Spills and Accidental Gas Releases (3-4 days)

Additional training courses may be developed based on country demand and capacity gaps. The nature and format of trainings will be determined depending on the priorities identified in each country. Capacity building and training activities may be undertaken in the following formats:

  • Face-to-face (in-classroom learning)
  • E-learning or webinars
  • Regional or sub-regional learning – which convenes two or more Oil for Development supported countries that have common capacity needs, facilitating peer-to-peer learning and maximising resource efficiency;
  • Training of Instructors – which will work with public administration training institutions and national universities to embed training curricula into ongoing courses and expand the pool of trained experts and civil servants
