We work around the world to raise awareness of environmental risks and reduce vulnerability to natural and industrial hazards. We also support countries to integrate the environment into their risk-reduction policies and actions.

In the last decade, the role of ecosystems in disaster risk reduction (DRR) has received increased global attention. Sustainable ecosystem management for DRR is now recognized as a priority measure in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, to which UN Environment is a signatory and active supporter. Drawing on our technical expertise and ample experience in the field, we help decision-makers find new ways to support ecosystems to reduce the risk of disaster at the local and national levels.
